Bongaigaon

Bongaigaon, a major city and the former capital of the medieval Kamatapur Kingdom, is famous for its historical monuments. BongaiGaon is the gateway to The Manas National Park. It is home to a major petrochemical concern, The Indian Oil Corporation. Present Day BongaiGaon demarcated as old BangoiGaon and New BangoiGaon is a thriving commercial hub sporting many malls and shopping complexes .There are many places that a must visit in BongaiGaon

Bageshwari Temple

This temple is one of the oldest temples dedicated to Goddess Parvati .Temple is named after the nearby “Bageshwari Pahar” which is also abode of many tigers. The Bagheswari Hill in Bongaigaon is located centrally within the city and at its highest point, houses a shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva

Many stories abound that Goddess Parvati was separated into many parts after Dakshya Yagya and scattered across the earth. A part of her Trishul was found on the very spot where the shrine lies. Hence, Bagheswari came to be dedicated to Goddess Parvati’s name.

Koya-Kujia Bill

Koya-Kujia Bill is an ecological park located in the Bongaigaon district of Assam. It is a famous picnic spot for children and adults alike. It is a project undertaken by the Assam Tourism Development Corporation that ensures safety of migratory birds. It is a natural water body surrounded by the gardens laden with   rich vegetation of different species of plants, shrubs, and herbs.

KakoiJana Wildlife Sanctuary,

Initially, a reserved forest, approved by the government, it later was promoted to the status of a sanctuary. Apart from the golden langur, several species like stork, python, leopard, hornbill, porcupine and much more are found here. This sanctuary houses various species of animals like hornbill, leopard, python, stork, golden langur, monitor lizards and pangolin. In addition to these, jungle fowl, barking deer, porcupine, mongoose and binturong can be spotted at this sanctuary.

Kachugaon Game Reserve is also located in Kachugaon of Bongaigaon district of Assam. Kachugaon has rare and endangered species such a gaur, golden langur, spotted deer and elephant.

Jogighopa and Pancharatna

Jogighopa and Pancharatna are two famous historic sites in Bongaigaon, Assam. Pancharatna lies on the southern side while Jogighopa lies on the northern side of the banks of River Brahmaputra. These sites have many rock structures shaped like cubicles  that are considered rooms of the medieval period. These rooms were used by Monks to meditate.

Narnarayan setu is a double-deck bridge with a railway track on the lower deck and a road on the upper deck. It connects Jogighopa with Pancharatna
