Assam – a gateway to the scenic heaven on earth

Assam is the gateway to the northeast Indian regions; geographically and metaphorically, it can be considered the eldest of the seven sister states. One of the must-visit tourist destinations for the Indian and international traveller, Assam as a state has a lot to offer. There are many places to visit in Assam, some famous and some yet unexplored.

From the Assam famous places, we have the Kaziranga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Guhwati, a major urban and religious centre for the northeast region, and a gateway to all the other destinations.

Assam is the largest state among the seven-sister states and offers a varied vista of colours, taste, and sounds for all the visitors. The rich cultural heritage and incredible natural beauty provide the various travellers something to explore and relax too.

Significant Places to visit in Assam

A thriving metropolis of the northeast region, the city is not only the gateway to northeast India but also a religious centre. A must visit place for everyone in Guwahati is the Kamakhya temple. It is one of the best places to visit in Assam for couples too, an auspicious start for the newly-weds life.

Apart from the Kamakhya temple of goddess Bhubhaneswari, there are many other temples to visit in the city. The city is well-connected with various parts of India via an airport and railway lines and runs toward the other states in the northeast region.

Kaziranga National park

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is a must-visit place for all wildlife enthusiasts. Being one of the Assam famous places, here you can find the great one-horned rhinoceroses, wild Asiatic water buffalo, and tigers. You can also check some endangered species of birds. A night camp in the wilderness of the park sounds like a romantic idea.

Connected by ferries from Jorhat’s city, it can be called the birthplace of Vaishnavism in the late 16th century. The Ali-Ai- Ligang festival in February – March could be an excellent time to visit and soak into the Assamese culture.

Jorhat- India’s tea capital is one of the beautiful places to visit in Assam for all tea- lovers. Known for its extensive tea gardens and manufacturing units, it holds an annual tea festival that tourists can visit. There is a specially organized tour that includes visiting the tea gardens, tea tasting sessions, visiting the nearby national park, jungle safari, playing golf, and many more activities with delicious local cuisine. Manas National Park, located at the foothills of eastern Himalayas, is a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site, a Project Tiger Reserve, an elephant reserve, and a biosphere reserve. In this park, you could see the endangered endemic wildlife of Assam, such as the pygmy hog, Assam roofed turtle, golden langur, hispid hare, and the great Bengal Tiger.
